Dear Corpsman’s Family,
September 11th, 2001, is a day that will never leave us. I remember where I was, like so many of you do. We watched in disbelief as thousands of innocent lives were taken. Civilians going to work, first responders running toward danger without hesitation, their courage and sacrifice are etched into our hearts forever.
But the impact of that day didn’t end when the smoke cleared. Families carried grief that never faded. Many who answered the call to serve in Afghanistan and Iraq gave everything in defense of our nation. Countless others came home carrying invisible wounds. And the men and women who worked at Ground Zero during the cleanup paid another price, many later falling ill from the aftermath of their bravery.
Today, we pause not just to remember the tragedy, but to honor the resilience of a nation that stood back up. We remember the unity, the compassion, and the strength we found in each other.
In times of tragedy and division, it’s important to remember how our nation once stood shoulder to shoulder after September 11th. In the face of unimaginable loss, Americans came together as one people, setting aside differences and uniting in strength, compassion, and resilience.
Today, we need that same spirit more than ever. We must not let politics and the values we believe in divide us so deeply that we forget our shared humanity. Regardless of what we believe or where we stand, we are all Americans, worthy of respect, dignity, and the common bond that ties us together.
May we honor the past by striving to live with unity, courage, and compassion in the present.
With respect, gratitude, and remembrance,
